What is RADIAL SHOCKWAVE therapy (RSWT)?

Radial Shockwave Therapy (RSWT) is an innovative and powerful therapy used to treat symptoms associated with chronic soft tissue injuries. It uses ballistic sound waves to create a “micro-trauma” in the soft tissue, which aims to trigger the inflammatory repair process of healing.

Radial Shockwave Therapy utilizes acoustic energy to deliver a powerful immune response. At the core of the device there is a projectile that delivers specialized waves penetrating deep into the soft tissue. At the molecular level, shockwave therapy increases local blood flow, breaks down scar tissue, and stimulates collagen regeneration and soft tissue repair.

WHICH CONDITIONS DOES RADIAL SHOCKWAVE Therapy (RSWT) TREAT?

For our athletes and non-athletes alike if you suffer from any of the following foot and ankle conditions RSWT maybe right for you:

Achilles, Peroneal, Anterior & Posterior Tibial Tendonitis
Plantar Faciitis
Ligament injury (acute and chronic)
Ankle sprains
Ankle & Foot swelling and inflamation
Shin splints
Running & Sports injuries
Metatarsalgia and capsulitis
Morton's Neuroma or neuritis
Peripheral neuropathy
Post-surgical recovery
Scars

Is It Painful?

Unlike other therapies, we stay as close as possible to the spot of maximum tenderness to deliver the desired energy in this location. During the treatment, there may be some minor discomfort. Painful spots are helpful in isolating areas of injury. A day or two after the treatment you may feel a slight discomfort like a bruise or soreness, but that is normal and is a sign that the treatment is working.

How Many Treatments Are Required?

The recommended protocol is for Radial Shockwave Therapy (RSWT) to be administered once a week for a series of 5 treatments. Unlike physical therapy which takes extensive time, shockwave therapy only takes approximately 5 minutes depending on the size and number of areas treated. It is advised not to take any anti-inflammatory medication or ice during and after each session. In addition, Custom Orthotics maybe recommended to complement and accelerate recovery from certain conditions.

Is It Safe AND EFFECTIVE?

Yes. Studies over the past 20+ years show that shockwave therapy is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive, and office based therapy with an 85% success rate. There is no down-time with shockwave therapy or limit in activity following treatments.
